(Pet Valu Canada) Pet Supermarket and Pet Valu Pledge $100K Toward Hurricane Harvey Relief and Launch Nationwide Donation Drive for Houston Animal Rescues

Posted On September 1, 2017

Customers are invited to make product and monetary donations at any Pet Supermarket or Pet Valu location in the U.S.

(PHILADELPHIA) – In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Pet Supermarket and Pet Valu have launched a chain-wide donation drive to aid families and pets affected by this disaster. The company has also donated $100,000 in pet food and products. Pet Valu and Pet Supermarket stores will be accepting donations to support the Houston SPCA and other local shelters between now and the end of September.

During the evacuations, many pets were lost or left behind and local animal shelters in the Texas area are in critical need of support. The seven Houston Pet Supermarket stores are closed and, like many business and homes, are under floodwaters.

“Our hearts go out to the people and pets of Houston and the state of Texas,” said Tom McNeely, CEO of Pet Supermarket and Pet Valu. “We hope that our donation and in-store fundraiser will help with the recovery effort and provide some relief for those affected.”

Pet Supermarket has 200 store locations in the Southeastern USA and Pet Valu has 350 stores in the Northeastern USA.

Pet Valu Ends 2016 with 300th Store Opening in U.S. and 27.5% Increase in Donations

Posted On December 27, 2016

Company’s philanthropic efforts bring in nearly $1.9 million for U.S. War Dogs, VetDogs, animal cancer treatments, pet rescues and adoptions

PHILADELPHIAPet Valu opened its 300th U.S. store on December 17, marking a major milestone for the specialty retailer of premium pet foods, supplies and accessories. In recent years, Pet Valu has become one of the largest pet retail operations in North America – and, at a more local level, one of the most active champions for pet care and animal shelters. Collectively, Pet Valu partners with about 750 animal groups across the country and along with expanding its footprint, the company has seen the proceeds from its fundraising efforts rise 27.5% in 2016.

“The success of Pet Valu as a whole is a testament to the individual relationships that our stores are forming in their communities each and every day,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “We are strongly committed to remaining the friendly, neighborhood pet store where our Pet Experts are on a first-name basis with customers and their pets. So whether it’s the thirtieth or three-hundredth store, we treat each opening like it’s the first at the community level.”

Pet Valu credits much of the success to its partnerships with animal shelters, adoption services and welfare groups as part of the company’s mission is to help local pets in need. Each store partners with at least 2-3 local animal organizations. For example, at the 300th store in New Canaan, CT, Pet Valu’s partner includes Strays and Others, which has helped facilitate adoptions for homeless pets for more than 20 years.

“One of the biggest things to celebrate with each new Pet Valu store is that it helps us raise more awareness and donations for the animal causes we support,” said Dent. “Each year, our fundraising results increase as more and more customers take advantage of the campaigns our stores offer to help local animals in need. We’re lucky to have one of the most generous and big-hearted customer bases in the U.S.”

Demonstrative of the year-over-year success with animal causes, Pet Valu’s recent Thanks for Giving product fundraiser in November raised a total of $178,165 for local animal shelters, marking a $40,000 increase over what was raised in 2015.

Likewise, Pet Valu’s other fundraising activities – for causes such as America’s VetDogs, Patriotic Pets (U.S. War Dogs), Come Clean for Cancer, adoption weekends and litter drives – saw significant increases in donations, totaling $1.9 million for 2016. And, through the company’s adoption facilitation services and promotions, a total of 927 homeless pets were placed in homes.

Pet Valu Raises More Than $500,000 During Annual Fundraiser for The United States War Dogs Association

Posted On October 5, 2016

More than $1.2 million raised for nonprofit organization over the last six years

PHILADELPHIA, PAPet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, raised $500,300 during its sixth annual Patriotic Pet fundraiser for The United States War Dogs Association, a national nonprofit that promotes the long history of military service dogs, establishes permanent War Dog Memorials and educates the public about the invaluable service of these canines to the United States. Since the inception of this fundraiser in 2010, Pet Valu has raised more than $1.2 million for the organization.

“Year after year, this fundraiser gets bigger and bigger, and we are so grateful to be a part of it,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “To be able to say we’ve raised more than $1 million for an organization very special to us is an absolute honor.”

From Monday, July 4 to Friday, September 30, 2016, customers purchased American flag pet bandanas for $5 each or gave a donation of any denomination to have their names posted on paper paws in their local Pet Valu stores. The fundraiser was originally scheduled to end on Patriot Day, Sunday, September 11, but Pet Valu kept the fundraiser open through the month to raise even more money for the organization.

Proceeds from the fundraiser provide The United States War Dogs Association with state-of-the-art equipment, fund transportation for veteran War Dogs back to the United States after service, help find forever homes for Veteran War Dogs and memorialize fallen four-legged soldiers. They have also led to the creation of the organization’s Rainbow Bridge Assistance Program, which funds the euthanasia and cremation of retired military, contractor, TSA and Secret Service working dogs, and its free prescription drug program, which provides families of adopted veteran dogs expensive medications crucial for the dog’s health at no cost.

“The success we have had with our free programs for active duty military working dogs and their handlers, including our K9 care package program, free prescription program and medical care for retired military working dogs, free wheelchair assistance program for disabled military working dogs and our Rainbow Bridge Assistance program, is a direct result of the fundraising support we’ve received over the last six years from our great partner, Pet Valu,” said Ron Aiello, president of The United State War Dogs Association.

Pet Valu Holds Annual Thanks for Giving Campaign Throughout November

Posted On September 14, 2016

Customers encouraged to donate pet supplies during needy time of year for rescues

PHILADELPHIA – Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, will hold a Thanks for Giving collection drive throughout the month of November to raise awareness of and collect food and supplies for local shelters and rescues that serve homeless animals in need. The holiday season is a very important time to ensure rescues are stocked up on supplies and food as they often see a rise in the number of pets they serve when pets are gifted to individuals unable to care for them.

Customers are encouraged to make monetary donations in store and to drop off food and unused supplies for pets at their local Pet Valu stores. Customers will also be able to feed a homeless dog or cat for a week by purchasing a food care package for $5.

“It’s important to not forget about the vulnerable homeless cats and dogs living in shelters as we buy gifts for everyone else during the holiday season,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “We’re looking forward to our customers stepping up and donating these much-needed supplies to the animals that need them most.”

Each Pet Valu store will identify a local shelter or rescue to be the recipient of the collection, ensuring customer donations stay in their respective communities. For more information, please visit www.us.petvalu.com.

Funds raised will support local animal shelters and rescue organizations

PHILADELPHIA – Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, facilitated the adoptions of 927 pets and raised $510,400 in monetary and product donations during its fifth annual Pet Appreciation Month in April. Pet Appreciation Month is the retailer’s month-long celebration of pets at all Pet Valu locations throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Midwest.

“Every year I am overwhelmed by the increasing generosity of our customers,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “This April we surpassed our goal of 800 pet adoptions and raised even more in donations than last year.”

Customers were encouraged to support local shelters by making product and monetary donations in-store at Pet Valu or by using the hashtag #PostaPaw on social media. For each Facebook, Twitter and Instagram post including #PostaPaw, Pet Valu provided one cup of pet food to a local shelter. In total, 10,000 cups of food were donated to shelters across the region. The month culminated in a Pet Adoption Weekend, an event in which customers could adopt homeless and abandoned animals by visiting their local Pet Valu store.

Pet Valu’s four previous Pet Appreciation Months had raised more than $900,000 in donations and led to more than 2,000 pet adoptions. This year’s adoption and donation totals are new records for the campaign.

Pet Valu Announces the Opening of its 50th Store in the Midwest

Posted On March 17, 2016

North Ridgeville, OH location opening March 25th marks milestone

PHILADELPHIA Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, is set to open its 50th store in the Midwest on March 25, 2016. The North Ridgeville, OH location will join several Midwest Pet Valu locations, including stores in Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania. Pet Valu also operates locations across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The milestone store will open in the Emerald Ridge Shopping Center, located at 34282 Center Ridge Road in North Ridgeville, OH. A grand opening is scheduled for April 16, 2016.

Pet Valu acquired the pet retailer chain Jack’s Pets last year and has been remodeling and re-branding Jack’s Pets stores as Pet Valu in addition to opening brand new locations. As a Pet Valu, the stores still maintain Jack’s Pets’ strong principles of value and customer service, but offer new products and amenities including self-serve dog-wash stations. All staff members also receive training in pet health and nutrition through the University of California UC Davis Extension School.

“When we open a new Pet Valu location in a community, we’re creating new opportunities for employment and increasing pet owners’ access to high quality pet products,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manger for Pet Valu. “We’re proud of our growth in the Midwest and look forward to furthering our expansion in 2016.”

Pet Valu has opened more than 15 stores in less than five weeks across the Midwest, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the U.S. The pet specialty retailer anticipates at least 13 new store openings by the end of May.

United States War Dog Association

4-War-Dogs

While we enjoy our daily freedom, there are many two-legged and four-legged soldiers fighting overseas to give us that right.

In July of 2010, Pet Valu began working to raise money for the United States War Dogs Association. Our four-legged soldiers have been unsung heroes for many years, many times without the proper equipment.

Pet Valu has made it our mission each year, from Independence Day to September 11th, to raise enough money to: provide these dogs with cooling vests, doggie goggles (doggles), and boots, fund transportation back to the U.S. after service, properly memorialize fallen soldiers, and find forever homes for the veteran dogs after service. Our mission begins by donating the proceeds of every $5 American Flag bandana to this cause.

In 2014, we raised $215,000 for our furry heroes.

In 2013, we raised $130,000 for the U.S. War Dogs.

Since 2010, our donations to this incredible organization have totaled over $400,000 but we don’t want to stop there! See your nearest Pet Valu before September 11th to buy your bandana.

For customers to participate in donations, products of all kinds were accepted, as well as monetary donations on paper paws to be posted around their local stores. In addition to the paws, Pet Appreciated Weekend comes once a month with a chance to donate the cost of a self-serve dog wash to the rescue shelters.

In 2015, our Pet Appreciation Month efforts resulted in over $500,000 in monetary and product donations and found almost 800 rescue pets a loving forever home!

In 2014, our donations reached $200,000 for rescue shelter organizations!

Litter Drives

One of our favorite special store events is the semi-annual Litter Drive! During specified months, stores collect donations for cat litter to be donated to local rescue shelters.

This year was extremely successful for our litter drives. Our February drive donated almost $50,000 worth of litter while our June Litter Drive donated over $114,000 worth of litter! Our cumulative 2015 drives reach $164,000 worth of cat litter donations! But don’t forget, we have an October Litter Drive coming soon!

After great success at our February Litter Drive, our June drive alone donated 500,000 POUNDS of litter to local shelters housing feline rescues. Our 2014 drives totaled over $246,000 worth of litter donated.

Combining our 2013 and 2014 litter drive efforts, we were able to send 1.5 MILLION pounds of litter to rescue shelters!
